Posted September 29, 2010 2:43 PM

From BBC News:

About 80% of the world's population lives in areas where the fresh water supply is not secure, according to a new global analysis. Researchers compiled a composite index of "water threats" that includes issues such as scarcity and pollution. The most severe threat category encompasses 3.4 billion people.

Bull. One look at the east coast of the U.S. will tell you that. Water is not a problem here. In fact, we're getting about one inch an hour as I type this.

Please read the article before battling it out! It is not just about water volume, but safety and pollution as well. And just a few lines down from the pic:

"Looking at the "raw threats" to people's water security - the "natural" picture - much of western Europe and North America appears to be under high stress.

However, when the impact of the infrastructure that distributes and conserves water is added in - the "managed" picture - most of the serious threat disappears from these regions."

I did read it. What I interpreted from this article were authors who wanted to "scare" everyone regarding issues we've bandied about for decades. There is nothing new here. I remember all the acid rain hysteria in the 70's. I still have etched in my memory, the hyperbole of the impending death of mankind from acid rain. The authors of this study picked evaluation criteria that would give them the results they were looking for.

I don't think anyone takes water supply issues lightly.
