Yes this is a real step forward, since it reduces the cost of new build with better energy efficiemcy.

However, the industry will have to work hard to make the system more durable.

Current UK figures for our climate, show that most solar schemes have a payback period of over 50 years, but the panels are only likely to last 30 years.

More work to be done I think.

I do calculate ROI for about 12 years (= 15000 usd/1300 usd/y) so maybe is better in North America then in UK but still too hight for an average new-home buyer.

Also repairing roof with broken shingles seems to be much easer and can be done by homeowner. This is the problem in US South.

There is no info about efectiveness (Watt/sq meter) of the installation.

Anyway, I am sure California will be a location for this new technology!
