End of the Earth Postponed

It's a good news/bad news situation for believers in the 2012 Mayan apocalypse. The good news is that the Mayan "Long Count" calendar may not end on Dec. 21, 2012 (and, by extension, the world may not end along with it). The bad news for prophecy believers? If the calendar doesn't end in December 2012, no one knows when it actually will - or if it has already.

I can predict the future too. I predict that there will be a lot of nuts predicting when the world will end and they'll be wrong. That leads to the question of the end of the world. Does this mean the end of the planet, the end of life on earth or just the end of the human race? If someone knows don't tell me, I want it to be a surprise.

Well, that's a load off! Except for one little detail: I've dispatched all my End-of-the-World Gala invitations, reserved several five-star hotels, advanced the caterers and valets their retainers - the latter to transport the less-capable revellers to their hotels just prior to everyone's demise - but now I must schedule crews to tidy up afterwards, dammit! I hadn't counted on this. Look, if the World's going to end, who gives a damn if the place is a bloody mess when it happens? <sigh> How to pay for it all. Got me one of those nifty No-Interest-Due-Until-Dec-22-2012 loans from Skeptic National Bank thinking I wouldn't be around to pay it back. Kind of like the way the Government thinks, except for the 'not be around' part. Whoa! Wait a minute! Do you think there might still be time to apply for Government Bail-Out? All I have to do is make 'em think I'm a Big Corporation. Or 72,000 dead people (stimulus checks). Voila-Moola!

Even if the calender did run out it would be for only two reasons

A they couldn't be ass ed to finish it.

B they new we would have adapted our own calender by this time.
