As the aerospace industry continues to flourish, so does the
demand for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) workers. There is currently
a shortage of qualified and skilled MRO engineers in the industry, which means
that current workers are working long hours on multiple jobs. In some cases,
MRO firms are attempting to recruit engineers from the air force, or related
industries to add to their staffs.
The Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers (SIAE)
believes that the best solution is to get aerospace MRO included in the
curriculums of vocational colleges and high schools. Once trained, it's estimated
that new workers will still require up to a year-and-a-half to get up to speed.
How do you think the aerospace industry can attract more MRO
engineers? Is earlier exposure to aerospace in schools the right tactic?
