There is quite the survival-of-the-fittest battle raging on between a
few would-be police cruisers at the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.
One of the competitors is the Taurus-based AWD Ford Police Interceptor. With a twin-turbo, direct-injected, 3.5L EcoBoost V6, it ran the
quickest lap, beating out the V8-powered offerings of Dodge and Chevy, and going from 0-60 mph in an impressive 5.8 seconds! It
wasn't made specifically clear who was beat out by the quick V6, but
some good guesses are the Caprice and Charger.
The Police Interceptor Utility sporting a 3.7L V6, based on of the upcoming 2011 Ford Explorer, also beat out the Chevy Tahoe by a full two seconds during a lap. Both
SUV's were laden with 400-lb cargo boxes during testing.
Powered by the standard Ford 3.5L V6, the Interceptor Utility beat out
the other V6 competition in braking, accelerating, handling and lap
times. In addition to exhibiting great performance and durability
during testing, it also made decent fuel economy, better than the
outgoing Crown Victoria by 20%.
