Is Being First Being Best?

Posted December 07, 2010 7:00 AM

Should being first on the market with a new medical product be your ultimate goal? An MPMN Medtech Pulse piece recounts the case of one company taking over a decade to develop and bring its novel transcatheter valve to market. While another manufacturer is expected to bring a similar product to market first, the later entrant plans to capitalize on the "free-rider effect" and correct technical deficiencies that may arise in the "first-mover."

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Medical Equipment Design, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Medical Equipment Design today.

Hi Inventor,

In marketing with nanything, being the first is the best! You know the importence of your equipment and the impact on the marketplace. The incumbent get the initial share of the market and can maintain it up to domination when no one makes major improvement of this equipment or cut the price and profits.

Yes, I suggest to be the first if your equipment works to customer satisfaction. You create the market and you can dominate for many times! Good luck and do it fast, Gil.

Hi Inventor,

Sorry for my finger's error but I am sure you got the explanation. Sorry again, you don't got it! Please, I think you, espacially you, don't touch any medical equipment. You want to get help and you storm on people who care about your subject. Thanks to be nicer when someone try to help YOU, Gil.
