I thought that there was some modified variant of Ecoli or something similar that was developed several years ago that did just that.

Your prob'ly right. Surely it's the way to go, tho', concentrating on getting fuel from the stuff that would otherwise be waste, rather that using foodstuffs?

Maybe I missed something - I'm no biochemist.
