Trial Run: The World's First Aircraft Carrier In Action

In three months Between 1910 and 1911, the plane you see here became the first ever to take off from and land on runways aboard the USS Birmingham and USS Pennsylvania carriers, respectively. Recently, photos from both experiments were uncovered.

It's truly amazing how far Naval Aviation has come in 100 years! Now we have experimental rail gun catapults on carriers

Not seeking to detract from the feat, but ref the "journalists" title;

The first seaplane carrier in history was the French La Foudre (1911). It had a short deck from which seaplanes took off and were retrieved from the sea by a crane.

USS Langley 1920 was the first US carrier

The big "Worlds First" here is the tail hook system. You have to ask why this innovation enabling the feat was ignored.
