1,000mph car

Posted January 17, 2011 8:15 AM

From BBC News - Science & Environment:

RAF fighter pilot Andy Green intends to get behind the wheel of a car that is capable of reaching 1,000mph (1,610km/h). Powered by a rocket bolted to a Eurofighter-Typhoon jet engine, the Bloodhound car will mount an assault on the land speed record. Wing Cmdr Green is writing a diary for the BBC News Website about his experiences working on the Bloodhound SSC (SuperSonic Car) project and the team's efforts to inspire national interest in science and engineering.

Interesting but where can you drive it? Houston's roads are so bad that if you hit a small bump (of which there are hundreds of thousands) or pothole (of which there are thousands) you'll become airborne and land in someones front yard or in the house. I can't see where it will be much good on the battle field either. However, just the fact that you can drive it at 1,000 mph makes it exciting. Glad Andy is still here to talk about it. Good Luck!

My response (#7) at THIS (original) THREAD on this topic was more-or-less in concurrance.

I pray that Andy fares well throughout the duration of this "H.G.Wells-like" brouhaha.

Can you spell "Martin-Baker Ejection Seat"?

"Yes" , to spelling ... "yes" to linking. < Martin-Baker Ejection Seats.com

Alas , at 1000+mph and elevation "zero" , me thinks it'd take but a picosecond-or-two ... (okay, mebbe a couple nanoseconds) to render the ejection seat "capability" as useless.

That is () unless they are REALLY taking care of him (Andy), and setting things up to "Auto-Eject" instant-friggin-taneously in the event of EITHER axis of the craft veering "off-parallel" to terra-firma ... ain't no scorpion-hole in the world big enuf to eject INTO safely....
