Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Cool Cars: 1956 Cadillac Eldorado

Posted January 27, 2011 8:30 AM by dstrohl

Officially known from 1956 General Motors documents as the Eldorado Brougham Town Car, this opulent styling exercise was the dream car of the 1956 GM Autorama. Crowds marveled at the futuristic fiberglass design and luxurious features of tomorrow. A wowed public imagined themselves as the dapper couple in this publicity photograph at left, going out on the town in this experimental Cadillac vision.

"The rear compartment is decorated all in beige with leather partition doors and quarter hangers and broadcloth seatback cushions and facings. A beige carpet is on the floor. The passenger compartment of the Eldorado Brougham Town car contains such items as a radio-telephone combination, air-conditioning equipment, a women's vanity compartment, cigar humidor and thermos bottle, and glasses. The chrome in the rear passenger compartment is of satin gold." – News from Cadillac 1956

The bigger the tailfins, the better the ride.

This must have been a very comfortable car!

Looks to me like a 1957 or 58 Caddy. Owned a 56 Coupe de ville once, what a gunboat.
