Who's Better: Ford or Toyota?

Posted February 06, 2011 7:58 AM

Quality Digest asks whether Ford has improved its quality enough to now challenge perennial leader Toyota, plagued by an unusual series of recalls over the last two years. The publication points to a recent Consumer Reports survey showing that the two car companies are in a statistical dead heat. However, Ford excels in the factors that consumers say matter most: safety, quality, and value. During a two-year period, Ford's standing in the Consumer Reports' Car Brand Perception survey has climbed by 35 percentage points, while Toyota's rating has plummeted by 46 points. What's your view on how these car companies now compare on quality?

As long as GM, and its executives, are alive and kicking Ford and Toyota will continue to appear to be the best of whats available. Both Ford and Toyota have their good and bad points but I have personally considered that if Toyota brings out a line of 3/4 and 1 ton full sized pickups Ford will get some serious competition.

I drive Fords but so far the Toyota owners I now have made a very strong impression on me with their Tundra series pickups. The Toyota pickups seem to have less maintenance and warranty issues and noticeably better fuel economy despite having equal to better HP and gross vehicle weight numbers than the new Fords of equal size and ratings have.
