Sensor at Fault for Latest Toyota Recall

Posted April 26, 2011 3:54 PM by Sharkles

It's been a couple of months, but Toyota is back in the news for another U.S. recall. This time, a faulty roll-angle sensor for the side curtain airbag system has resulted in "some reports of minor injuries" for drivers of 2007-08 RAV4s, Highlanders, and Highlander Hybrids.

The recall has been issued after the company was notified that the side curtain airbags and seatbelt pretensions were being activated inadvertently. Resulting injuries include the driver being cut by the seatbelt webbing when it was "retracted with high-speed movement in conjunction with activation of the seatbelt pretensioner."

Although the recall is being announced now, it's said not to begin until mid-day. At that time, Toyota dealers will replace the roll sensor assembly.

Has the number of Toyota recalls in the U.S. made you change your opinion of the company? Have you been affected by any of them?

Does that mean that I have to show up at noon for the Toyota dealer to replace the roll sensor assembly? Do they have a shrink to address my seatbelt's pretensions?

Have you check recalls for other car manufacturer?

A quick search will get recalls for Ford, Honda, Volve, Cadillac, BMW, Mazda etc.

Does all those recalls made you change your opinion of automobile? Will you still buy any car? Do you feel safe driving one? Or be in one? Should we ban all vehicle production until manufacturers can make sure they won't make any mistake and have zero recall on their product?

Why it is a big deal for Toyota recall? Many other companies are having recall recently also.
