In the personal luxury category, there are no two heavier heavyweights
than the four-seater Thunderbird and the Buick Riviera, so it would
stand to reason that a comparison between the two is inevitable. Josiah
Work took on that task, choosing to pit the
1963 versions of each against each other. Whether you agree or disagree
with the results, one thing is certain: They're both fine pieces of
American iron, and most enthusiasts would have a hard time deciding
between them.

"The comparison in suspension frankly surprised us. Based on
our experience with earlier Buicks, we rather expected that the Riviera - with its
coil springs at all four corners - would feel "mushy", compared with the
Thunderbird. But it doesn't. To the contrary,
the Riv corners somewhat flatter than the T-Bird and is a litter easier to control
on winding roads."
