On the list of San Francisco's most important and historic cars, the
1931 Lincoln Series K Phaeton described by Josiah Work certainly must be near the top, considering all the dignitaries
it carried and the possibility that it was the first car to cross the
Golden Gate (can anybody confirm that?). We wonder if it's still in the
city's possession, and if it remains on active duty status today. We also
have to wonder if any other police departments in the country have a
Full Classic in their fleets.
From the article: "Lincolns had a long tradition of police use. They were fast,
tough and dependable; and for 1931 there had been a host of improvements. Not
only had the car been handsomely restyled that year, but - thank to its use of
the industry's first dual-down-draft carburetor - its horsepower had been
advanced to 120, up from 90 the year before."
