So why is the title of the blog "Bulletproof Skin ......" when the blog's only sentence states "..creates nearly bulletproof human skin by sandwiching..."?

Even in the link they expressly state it was not able to stop a standard 22 caliber. It was only able to stop a reduced speed bullet. Good grief.

Good grief. This seems like a foolish goal at the very least. Forgetting for the moment that this spider silk skin did not stop a bullet, what might happen if Dr. Moreau's experiment had worked and that it could be grafted into a person's skin. Would surgery now be impossible? Will all elasticity of the skin be lost? Would normal weight gain/loss become painful? How will the loss of elasticity effect the function of all of our sphincters?

How will the loss of elasticity effect the function of all of our sphincters?

I'd rather not think about that.

"A .... artist created....". No, he rather clobbered up something, anything. Straight thinking? Nah, what is that for?

My better half straighten me out with words. Is the invention any good for that?!?

I stumbled onto another article about this goofy bullet proof skin test and it makes a little better sense now. This modified spider silk material is intended as a grafting bandage and possible tendon replacement in reconstructive surgery. I believe the layer of grafted skin cells is intended as a petri dish rejection test and possible anti-rejection coating for future use. The bullet test was just a curiosity test of the strength of this new silk and skin hybrid.

To give the artist credit, this test was so wacky that it drew publicity to this potential medical device.

Very clever really, sandwiching between ep and dermis instead of tacking onto the outside - that way flies won't stick to the superhero!

And for lesser mortals, the blocking of pores could mean that not only you can't really stop bullets, you can't "sweat bullets" either. On the plus side, this could eliminate the need for long underwear in cold climates.
