Posted August 26, 2011 11:38 AM

From Fast Company:

Because there isn't enough snow in Arizona to support a ski range, the Snowbowl Resort is making its own snow. But the only water available is wastewater.

I don't "have a dog in this fight", but I think the use of the word "sewage" is misleading and maybe even slanderous.

What's to say that Flagstaff's drinking water doesn't already contain, "hormones, endocrine disruptors, pharmaceuticals, carcinogens,"?

Just sayin.

The press gets a story and has to beat it up to sell the "news".

I say truly "Go for it!". The treated wastewater is probably of better quality that what they would pump direct from any river or stream.

It currently galls me that treated effluent in Aus (Away from the major capitals that seem to have some amnesty on their level of treatment.) has imposed "quality" standards higher than the rviers that we extract water from, and then requires us not to return that water to maintain environmental flow.

I won't rant on this, but it seems that it's another example of the "YUK" factor getting inthe way of proper engineerng management.

Think of it this way.

If the treatment plant knows the water will be directed to public use (and independant scrutiny) they will absolutely make sure treatment is properly done.

I've skied the Arizona Snow Bowl a few years back. It was to my knowledge then that they were using treated wastewater. But maybe I was misinformed.

I can hear Frank Zappa now, "Watch it where the huskies go, don't eat that . . . "
