Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Winter's Coming - 1929 Ford Model A Snowmobile

Posted September 09, 2011 10:00 AM by dstrohl

While some of you may already be cleaning the carburetor on the old 1971 Arctic Cat Puma, Ford faithful should take note that winter snows are no match for this 1929 Model A equipped with tracks and skis. If recent events in Vermont have taught us anything, it is that preparedness is good - especially in this economy. If all else fails, you could always sign up for a rural mail route.

Around here its not uncommon to see old cars and trucks that served as postal route vehicles that have been modified extensively for winter conditions. Unfortunately the it would appear that the old "Rain nor sleet nor snow will stop the US post office from delivering" is long gone. Now its "if the sun ain't shiney you can kiss our hiney and come and get your mail yourself"

Now a days around here if the road isn't paved and maintained properly the mail doesn't show up and heaven forbid if the rout driver has to go an extra mile or two if a road is blocked or out. (Or there is a suspicious looking dog along the way)
