Where Do You Want the Robots?

If robots take over the workplace then we humans had better look out, who is going to pay us a wage? And if robots take over from human soldiers we also must look out, in other words we mustn't let robots take over the world!

...apparently, not ENOUGH people have seen the "TERMINATOR" movies and their message of "...we (robots) shall OVERCOME you..."

I just want a robotic assistant to hold something, or carry something a distance away, or rotate something while I take measurements, or lift and hold something, and rotate it about different axis, only a few tens of degrees so that I can get to something to take measurements or open some cover to change out electronics. The assistant should follow me about at a distance of 10 feet until called to come closer. It should be able to show me a picture of what it is seeing, and I should be able to interact by boxing an item in the picture and giving it a command to approach that object. There should be a fail safe that anything that is human looking cannot be approached for anything but receiving commands at a command distance of no closer than 2 feet.
