Our post from the other day regarding changes in Cuban law regarding passenger cars elicited quite the response, not only in the comments, but also over on the Hemmings Nation Flickr pool, where Bowen Stead, aka Flat-Black 66, uploaded a number of photos of classic American cars that he spotted still on the roads of Havana. Bowen tells us

"I had a great time taking the photos. Cuba is like a giant open air museum of classic cars. It sometimes seems like at least half the cars on the road are pre-sixties. I love going down there. The place has this crumbling beauty that is great to photograph and the people are really nice."

Some of the comments in the earlier post argued for leaving the cars in situ rather than bringing them here to the States and restoring them. Agree with that viewpoint or not, photographs like Bowen's are at least a way to appreciate these cars as they are now rather than what they could become were they exported north.
