Whenever they start making "over unity" claims, the scientists and engineers that may be able to progress the item (and those that may be able to finance it) will put up their defensive barriers.

Not so fast. Quantum efficiency isn't the same as total efficiency from electrical output............................................But, I don't know how much gold it takes. It won't take much to put it out of reach, cost wise.

Doesn't anybody remember the second law of thermodynamics? Output cannot exceed input, period. If something appears to be more than 100% efficient, or even, very close to it, there is input coming in from somewhere else.

True for thermodynamics, but not for quantum physics.

Like saying the ratio of passengers to cars exceeds 100%.

(Although if they can combine this technology with NEODYMIUM magnets like TESLA did, who knows what will happen.)

Huh? I have read a considerable amount about Teslas work and I do not recall him ever working with neodymium magnets. In fact I am fairly sure they did not even exist in his time being they did not get invented until the 1980's.

They seem to worship Tesla and like using magnets - especially NEODYMIUM magnets.

I think the Q.E. here works the same as in the photo multipliers we manufacture where I work. It is possible to get multiple hits from a single photon hence the 'over unity' figure. For a single photon entering one of our devices we can get 10³ electrons emitted, this is how Gen II night vision works.
