Darpa Dodges Obama Budget Death Ray, Keeps Its $2.8 Billion

Posted February 14, 2012 8:31 AM

From Wired Top Stories:

For most of the U.S. military's far-flung community of scientists and engineers, Monday was a day to pop a Xanax, with budgets sliced almost everywhere. Yet Darpa - the Pentagon's premiere research arm - somehow emerged unscathed. How? Well, embracing the White House's top priorities sure didn't hurt.

Obama Budget Death Ray?????

No, no, no..........................you've got it all wrong. It's not a death ray. It's a laser like focus on jobs, and looking out for the little guy.

DARPA more than pays their way with dividends on new technology....To cut their budget would be economic suicide...We should be raising their budget and cutting some of the dead wood like drug czars, alcohol firearms and tobacco(are we really still concerned with bootleggers now that they have their own show on TV?...firearms? really?...tobacco?..hello? E-cigarettes)...I could definitely go on and on....

This is an outfit, that was established to pursue high risk high tech potentially high payoff programs. Those, which did not fit anywhere else. Arpanet/Internet alone paid for all past and future programs.

Its budget does not amount to a rounding off errors in other governmental programs.

Compare it to other expenditures. How many thousand billions a pop supporting a banking system? Some 500 billion per year for imported oil as far as the eye can see. Is there a sane correction for any of that?

Darpa programs support the future, our future.

I agree. There appears to be an all out effort in the works to shrink our military, and everything military related, while at the same time, the world becomes more dangerous than ever. I'm glad I don't live in Israel. It also appears, that for the first time in their history, they cannot depend on the US to help them if needed.
