LHC Is Back With Big Energy Boost

I knew a guy, last name Higgs, in school. He didn't seem like a boson at all -- pretty nice guy in fact. 'Course, I can't prove any of this.

Seriously, for those of us who want to understand why go to all this effort, the Wiki article is pretty good. I especially like the quote attributed to Leon Lederman when asked to explain why he titled the particle the "God particle."

I'm sure the masses would say, "WHAT? Whatever floats your boat, I guess."
