The Large Hadron Collider is operating again after its winter break, and running at even high energies as it seeks new physics and a resolution to the hunt for the Higgs boson.
I knew a guy, last name Higgs, in school. He didn't seem like a boson at all -- pretty nice guy in fact. 'Course, I can't prove any of this.
Seriously, for those of us who want to understand why go to all this effort, the Wiki article is pretty good. I especially like the quote attributed to Leon Lederman when asked to explain why he titled the particle the "God particle."
I'm sure the masses would say, "WHAT? Whatever floats your boat, I guess."
