Gross risk to national security.

It is absolutely impossible to generate and transport enough electricity to power mass EV transportation in the US. The calc I did as to gross KW usage (and it wasnt really even a calc, it was a 'back of an envelope' in 10 minutes) had me giving up when the exponent was something like 22 and climbing.

At some point it goes from laughable to insulting

Baseline, for anyone who can calculate it and hasnt:

New Lotus EV as in SAE magazine recently, 30KW- 30 mph. Not even an approximation of a typical passenger car. No range to speak of.

127 million passenger vehicles (CIA data on Wiki)

12K average miles per year.

Power grids already at collapse. Have been for years.

Then throw the alt energy stupidity on top of it:

Sanyo Gaia solal panel efficiency 15%.

Solar conversion and system efficiency, oh, SWAG, 5-8% efficient.

Wind turbine 2.4 MW output (figure from a wind farm engineer)

So who cares whether China is sole source for Rare earths, we can never have electric mass transport anyway.

That comes nowhere near touching high powered applications like commercial transport at hundreds of KW.

Phoney Baloney. Theres always a researcher looking for research money and will always have a narrow focus, to exclude the fact the whole thing is academic.

Toxicity of mass production and use of lithium batteries? That in itself WOULD BE laughable except its so dangerous.
