Make an Improvised Compass (and Other Survival Tools) from Cellphone Parts

This is the type of nonsense some people will put on the internet just so they can see their name in print, viewable by thousands of people on an international forum...

I've torn three phones apart and still haven't found that piece of iron wire I need to make the pool of water point to the north.

Well, that's what it said! "you can place them in a pool of water and it should point you north."

I was wondering about steel wires in a cell phone...

I haven't bothered to take a phone apart to look, but I imagine there aren't any steel wires in the phone in my pocket. Maybe I need to carry some nails too.

I took a little poetic license when I said I'd torn phones apart. I have one or two at work I'll sacrifice next week, if time permits. There might be some type spring inside them that could work.

Okay, keep us posted. I guess I would be curious.

In the meantime I'll just carry a compass, a signal mirror, and some matches.

I can't find a sccrewdriver small enough to take it apart. We don't work on little stuff here.

I'm going back to the farm on Wed. so I may have to postpone the tear-down till I get back.
