Building Blocks - Advances in Cancer Research

Posted May 20, 2007 8:00 AM

Ever wonder just where the combination of new found technology and a vast array of scientific knowledge might lead mankind?

Thermo Fisher Scientific's groundbreaking discovery in cancer research is a good example. The research combines a method of gene regulation, a Human-Genome library, and the scientific knowledge to block the actions of certain cancerous genes. Results could lead to advanced cancer fighting drug development, or the reduction of chemotherapy side-effects.

By definition in it's simplest form cancer is an unchecked multiplication of cells .This article alludes to turning the key to stop the multiplication process. I am curious as to whether it will work on only specific forms of cancer or have wide spread application.

I am pleased to see there are still great scientific minds being developed to help some of mankind's health problems!!
