The UberGolf GTI: W12 engine, 650 bhp

Posted May 20, 2007 5:35 PM

From Coolest Gadgets:

The Golf GTI is the favorite hot-hatch of the world. It's currently at its fifth generation. Yearly, in Worthersee Austria, there's a GTI festival, where owners and fans of the GTI pay some hommage to this great car. This year it's the GTI's 3-th anniversary, and Volkswagen have decided to reward their fans with a very, very special edition of the GTI. We're talking an engine which is situated above the one found in the Phaeton (and Bentley Continental GT by that matter), and not so much below the one found in the Bugatti Veyron. It can do 100 kmh in 3,7 seconds, and exceed 200 mph.

Here in the states we pronounce Renault "run-not." Maybe they've improved since I owned my Fuego - that's Spanish for "fire" and given the fuel leaks not far from the truth. Ah well.

I will admit that your Renault looks pretty good, but 0-100kph in 3.7 seconds? That would be something.

You bought a Fuago! Hahahahahah! Thats like me saying I bought an Edsel! (Mind you, if you had a good Edsel today....) Being English I am barred from admitting to liking anything to do with the French..however, the Renault in question is a mid engined V6 monster...not as good as the Golf, maybe, but for it's time, pretty amazing.

Yeah, I bought a Fuago. Or Fuego. The guys at the office pinned a pic of a Dauphine on my office door. And later an Edsel. They had a lot of fun with that.

I only kept the car about a year before I just gave up on it as hopeless.

"Why did you learn German in school?" "To piss off the French in two languages..."
