I like to buy organic food, not for nutritional benefits to me, but because I know there's a piece of farmland out there with a healthy community of soil organisms, insects etc. which I've helped to support. It's more or less the insects and microorganisms I'm especially fond of. I like to imagine em, out there....

I like to grow organic food, not for nutritional benefits but because the water relations in the soil are so much more stable than the chem-ag situation. Organic soil has lots of mycorrhizae to hold water. Less work for the hose, less risk when it comes to heavy rain. I want those little suckers in the tub with my tomato plants. Once again, it's about my affection for microbes.

I like to eat organic food for the above reasons, and I'll also take the 30% less pesticide residues cited in the study. I know, I know, pesticides are good for you, right? My religion allows me to take it on faith, that it's okay to avoid neurotoxins if you have the option. Happy day!

You couldn't have put it more succinctly!

The news of Organic Food 'Not Any Healthier' is doing global rounds in hundreds of print media, as though consumption pesticide leaden is fantastic for health and it is fallacious to pay extra for certified organic stuff!

I have shrewd suspicion of this being a paid news by the giant industries to promote the poison they make as food!

Ok, Just that Artsmith doesn't consume that stuff for health or to avoid poisoning, he is just concerned about the environment and the organisms living there.

I personally don't care very much, but is true that I hate processed chese, and the worst part is that you can't find traditionally made chese anymore, or at least not everywhere.

I notice that the results are only based on the content of the food; nothing is said about the build-up (or not) of any toxins within the human body.

Take a lesson from a lifeform that has been here a lot longer than humans, the lowly bacteria...Do they worry about anti-biotics? No...it just makes them stronger....

But over generations; the few who just get by to start with beget more who have more resistance. It is unnatural selection.

My understanding was that the very process of being the ones who just survived and passing on that ability to the next generation was exactly what natural selection and evolution was based on?

Did they change that concept in schools now too being too many (the political majority) who were not surviving didn't like it?

Are you saying then that the human struggle to survive is unnatural? That doesn't seem right...All living things seek to control their own destiny by whatever means is available....

To say that 30% less pesticides is not any healthier is just plain stupid. But I must say that it should be more than 30%. It should be 90%+.

Or eat more meat. That solves the veggie problem and cow fart methane issues rather well from my perspective!

People buy organic to respect their planet, not just themselves.

the alternative press has revealed that the study was false. that it was paid for by the pesticide and herbicide industry as an organic bashing piece. it was totally bogus. stanford has apologized. industry has not.
