Medical Power Supply Standards Go Global

Posted May 30, 2007 4:02 PM

Evolving standards for medical power supplies promise to improve safety and foster the process of international compliance. In a recent Power Electronics Technology article, Astrodyne engineers review current medical equipment standards and discuss the new standards (classifications and collateral standards) which are being proposed in response to technology changes in the medical marketplace. In particular, the article focuses on the introduction of the third edition of the IEC 60601-1 standard and the development of the ISO 14971 standard, which focuses on the application of risk management and essential performance to medical devices. New challenges facing medical electronics designers are also addressed.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Electronic Product Design, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Electronic Product Design today.
