Watch SpaceX’s Grasshopper Hover 80 Meters In the Air

When we last saw SpaceX's Grasshopper, it had just finished a test flight that carried the vertical takeoff/landing rocket up to 40 meters. A couple months later, it's now hovering in at around 80 meters! Progress!

It would have been more impressive if they had shot it up around 260 feet and played better music in the video.

Watching the smoke come off the landing gear makes me suspicious that they didn't use high temp paint either.

I hope my tax dollars are not paying for this!

Well the Lunar Landing Research Vehicles built by NASA had a service ceiling of 1,800 feet, but that was almost 50 years ago.

Isn't the moon a bit higher than 1800 feet?

I went to public school so I am not sure.

Well, 1,800 feet is almost 550 meters, so it has a jump over SpaceX - at least so far.
