New York's First Passive House Would Have No Problem Hiding From the Predator

Posted April 23, 2013 9:38 AM

From Gizmodo:

Earlier today we talked about the Living Building Challenge, a certification system that rates the sustainability of a building over the course of a year. Here's a follow-up about 23 Park Place, a Park Slope townhouse that's probably the most energy efficient home in the city, thanks to its Passive House certification.

Maybe it's because they were freezing their arses off while the rest of the neighbors were comfortably warm.

Never mind sealing a house up like a vault will create some nasty smells inside and lead to sick house syndrome.

Like a lot of things in life, just because some is good, more is not necessarily better.

Reminds me of when I had this lower apt with a heat pump, first year ran all the time during the winter. That summer was a block party, met the upstairs neighbor, I heated his apt the past winter. Next winter, pulled a 1500 watt ceramic heater in a sleeping bag then shut it off and went to sleep. Mornings were a bit weird when there are clouds forming around 30'F and the shower was so much fog. I refused to turn on the heat and heat my neighbor ever again. I saved so much on my electric I bought a house. Now screwed. Just kidding. That was 40+ years ago... Seems like yesterday.
