Inside The Most Expensive Science Experiment Ever

Posted June 27, 2013 2:33 PM

From Popular Science - New Technology, Science News, The Future Now:

Some people have spent their whole working lives researching fusion and then retired feeling bitter at what they see as a wasted career. But that hasn't stopped new recruits joining the effort every year: optimistic young graduates keen to get to grips with a complicated scientific problem that has real implications for the world. Their numbers have been increasing in recent years, perhaps motivated by two factors: there is a new machine under construction, a huge global effort that may finally show that fusion can be a net producer of energy; and the need for fusion has never been greater, considering the twin threats of dwindling oil supplies and climate change.

I think that we have not yet found the correct equipment that will harness the Fusion process and make it viable. Magnetic confinement equipment seems not to be the only solution being looked at, up to this date.

The new equipment (eater) is still navigating in the same direction (magnetic confinment) and, if my memory serves me right, some scientist has made a statement saying that as long as the metal IRON is used in the equipment main body and magnets, the output result will allways be less than what is inputed. (I could not remember his name, but the epriod ~ the 60's). Can anyone remember or has any one heard of a similar statement?

I was doing great until I read the last line of this posting. I dare say the most expensive science experiment will be the one to 'reverse global warming'.
