Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

How Far to Abbey Road?

Thankfully, the British number plate system allows relatively simple vehicular tracking over time, otherwise how would we have known that a photo we recently came across online depicts both John Lennon's 1965 Rolls-Royce Phantom V and George Harrison's Radford-ized 1966 Mini Cooper S?

That is the simple beauty of the UK number plate system.

If those cars had been registered in Germany, the number would have been changed each time the car was sold into another region's area...

Also, they have recently reduced the number of previous owners shown in the car documents to just the one before the owner.

Total rubbish.....

But, its "jobs for the boys", who would be otherwise completely unemployable in any normal country!!!!!

There is a word/name in Germany and Austria, that as far as I am aware has no true comparison in any normal country. That word is "Beamter".....

There are plenty of "part meanings" in various dictiobnaries, but none complete as they forget to mention that these officials are in a job for life, must commit a murder before this status can be lost, and even then its not 100% certain......such jobs are not available in any normal country.....

It annoys me when the German news, talking about UK/USA Police, call them Beamters, which they are patently NOT!!!

You can get pills for all those exclamation marks.
