Biggest Trends In Eco-Friendly Building

Posted September 14, 2013 12:00 AM by CR4 Guest Author

Environmentally friendly options are increasingly more and more important when people are making decisions in their daily life. This is also really important when people are considering their options in construction and building.

There are a lot of innovations out there and here are some of the biggest trends currently taking place in eco-friendly building.

Solar Panels

Solar panels are one of the biggest trends in eco-friendly building these days. There are a lot of variations available, which also means it is a more viable option for different types of buildings. Solar panels are often used in the roof to provide energy to the building. It can be a very efficient way to provide environmentally sustainable energy and can help bring down energy bills.

The downside to solar panels is still the fact that they are quite an expensive option. The expenses often mainly come from the installation, which can be very costly. But because more and more companies are getting into solar panel technology the costs might come down in the near future.

Better Recycling Options

It is increasingly important for people to recycle in their daily lives and this is also evident in construction industry. There are more and more materials used in construction that have been recycled. For instance, constructors now often use recycled glass.

The trend is also to ensure that new buildings have better recycling opportunities once they are built. This means that kitchens for instance often include more room for separating the waste products and there are more options for recycled furniture as well. Earthy Easy has a great information package about recycling products at your home.

ETFE Panels

ETFE panels are becoming increasingly trendy in the eco-friendly construction business. A lot of current public buildings are opting for ETFE as a building material and this is no wonder. ETFE is very cost effective because it is really lightweight making it very easy to install into any support structure.

It also provides a lot of natural light to the building and can thus help save utility costs.

Natural Light Solutions

This trend is very much hand in hand with the above trend of ETFE panels because they are very efficient in providing buildings with natural light. The focus in construction is becoming more and more about providing as much natural light to buildings as possible. This can mean a lot lower energy bills and it will also be important for human happiness since natural light is really important for a healthy mind.

This trend is also evident in lighting solutions with them being much subtler and providing a sense of natural light in the spaces they are used.

The above trends are currently the biggest ones in eco-friendly construction and a lot of public and private buildings are making the most of incorporating these trends.

Editor's Note: Deborah is into environmentally friendly living and is constantly looking out for new ways to ensure she is living the "green life". She is also a big fan of gardening and loves to grow her own herbs and vegetables.

I have heard of the above mentioned trends, but recently talked to some friends that live in the capital district area of NY and they have added geothermal energy systems to their homes that capture the temperature up to 15 feet below the surface of their front yards to create heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. Here is a link to one of these systems GEO 101. I am not endorsing this company, just showing an example of the closed loop water system they added. This system combined with a solar system for electricity is saving one home owner a substantial amount.

Hello and Thank you:

Other trends of GEO 101 is the use of non-heat-pump Earth Energy Exchange

with

Earth Collector Loops that have only a heat exchanger, say in make-up air ducting of buildiings requiring pre-cooled and pre-heated air above and below ground temps, respectively.

The excavators/drillers could sell the "btuh exchange" as design builders with contingencies such as just meeting an engineer's spec of so many btuh required, rather than specifying a number of holes, which has backfired repeatedly in GEO 101.

Are you selling other companies or other DX? There are quite a few geothermal postings in this site. Good reading and some misunderstandings.

There is solar combined with aforementioned non-heat-pump for extremely 'sustainable' application with geothermal closed loop fluids, too.

some posts of my GEOJP 2008 cover this
