Building a Highway Is Way More Complicated Than You'd Think

Posted August 24, 2013 5:23 PM

From Gizmodo:

There's way more to building a road than just slathering some asphalt all over the ground. The process is actually pretty involved, with a bunch of steps you probably hadn't thought of. And even a little bit of art to it.

It's even more complicated than the attached video depicts.

What's not covered is the tremendous amount of Engineering Planning and Design work involved, the permitting process incl. public meetings, funding reviews, Construction Administration, production of the Contract Documents, and Laboratory testing of materials before and during construction. And on the construction end of it, the earthwork, the underground & aboveground infrastructure work, and the Project Closeout process is not shown.

Welcome to my world and it's realities.....a chitfull of detailed work.
