Multitasking After 60: Video Game Boosts Focus, Mental Agility

Posted September 06, 2013 8:38 AM

From Research News:

The aging brain may be more flexible than we thought, a study of older adults now suggests. After playing a racing car video game an hour a day, thrice weekly for a month, adults age 60 and over were better at multitasking than untrained 20-year-olds.

Hope it works.

While the old people are driving race cars, the kids are playing games in which life and death has no meaning, and gutting and killing people is considered sport.

Have you seen the video games the kids are playing?

I played one with my nephew about 5 years ago, when he was 11. He had me murdered and hacked to pieces 30 times, before I could even figure out how to work the controls.

Now he's got the Xbox with a headset, so he and his friends can go on killing sprees in an organized manner, with real time communication.

These are the people that will be working on the Obamacare death panels in 10 years. Doesn't look too good for aging baby boomers.

TREATMENT DENIED DUE TO ADVANCED AGE

Exactly.

I don't think these games create murderers, however, when combined with abusive or absent parents, I believe that they become reality for some kids. The logical next step, (once the game is mastered), is to take out a living person...or more.

We used to have BB gun fights when we were kids; it was stupid, but there was genuine pain associated with being hit. The video games are a complete detachment from reality.

We are also drugging the crap out of our kids. What used used to be normal, pain in the ass behavior, is now ADHD, and must be treated.

I think you're talking about a very very small fractional percentage of the population that has always existed....It's not a perfect world, it was never meant to be void of evil and hardship, and trials and tribulations of survival are what builds character and creates compassion and good strong moral people....The mentally ill and emotionally unstable people will always exist, the morally weak and undisciplined the ignorant and radical thinkers, this is just a segment of the society that needs to be managed by the efforts of the majority of rationally thinking individuals ...

"I played one with my nephew about 5 years ago, when he was 11. He had me murdered and hacked to pieces 30 times, before I could even figure out how to work the controls."

Well what about those kids who grew up in the country learning to butcher their own animals for food?

I was in 3rd grade when one of my farm buddies came to school one day all excited that he chopped the heads off of 50 some chickens and turkeys one weekend and learn how to slit pigs throats!

How well do you think your nephew will be with a actual knife when all he knows about killing is CGI generated and controlled with a few fingers on buttons VS having actually gotten used to hacking a stabbing real living animals?

Yet that said I don't know of a single kid who grew up doing such things that is socially or mentally out of touch with reality or the values of life. If anything the people I know of as adults who did those things as kids seem to have the strongest grasps of what is right and wrong relating to the values of life and moral actions.

Kinda weird how chicken chopping pig stabbing animal mass murdering Bobby grows up to be the most rational and responsible person I know of when it comes to the values of life.

One of my Mother's chores when she was growing up, was to chop the heads off the chickens. She hated it, but she did it.

The same people that think that electricity is generated inside the walls of their homes, think that their meat comes pre-packaged from the sky.

I'm not a hunter, because it's hard for me to stay quiet, and I get bored, but I've got some bucks in my yard that are getting too big to resist.

I give it 10 years, and everybody over 60 will be watching video games that tell them to kill themselves for the sake of the children.

Just take the pill.

That was pretty good, for a bad movie. At least it had lots of hot chicks in it.

Nah, it'll be more subtle than that...more like paperwork snafus that hold up treatment, and people dying while they wait for an answer.

Sort of like what the IRS was is* doing to people that still believe in the constitution, but it will be our medical treatment that gets delayed.

* I forgot that it hasn't stopped.
