In September of 1944, at an
industrial exhibition held at Stockholm's Royal Tennis Hall, Volvo unveiled a
car that was to be the key to its future. Its name, the PV 444, denoted
four-cylinders, four seats, and 40 horsepower, and despite its conventional (if
not dated) appearance, the car would be a mainstay of Volvo's product line
until production of the PV series ended on October 20, 1965.
Though the Second World War was not
yet over, the reveal of the PV 444 was a sign that better days were indeed on
the horizon.
