Flying Car Dream Is Becoming Reality

Posted November 04, 2013 12:49 PM

From BBC News - Science & Environment:

In 1940 Henry Ford famously said: "Mark my word: A combination airplane and motorcar is coming. You may smile, but it will come." Just nine years later Moulton Taylor had designed and flown his Aerocar, proving the viability of Ford's fantastical concept. But only three models were ever built, and the dream of a viable vehicle that can offer freedom both in the air and on the road has remained frustratingly elusive. Until now that is.

It never fails to amaze me that engineers pamper to the dream of making a car into an aeroplane. It is worse than making a foot stool into hat! The two are incompatible. The plane of minimum weight and the car of robust construction.

Unless an abundant source of "cheap" energy can found to keep an over weight car in the air, as an ill designed plane, this "dream" is a nightmare. Alternatively, trying to scale down a plane with large wings designed to "ride" the air, into a vehicle driving on restrictive width highways, is also a similar nightmare. More result could be achieved for designing a foot stool to fit on ones head, and a hat for something to stand on.

I believe this is never going to reach commercial viability as a commonly used vehicle. (IMO)

A duck walks into a bar and asks: "Got any Bread?"

Barman says: "No."

Duck says: "Got any bread?"

Barman says: "No."

Duck says: "Got any bread?"

Barman says: "No, we have no bread."

Duck says: "Got any bread?"

Barman says: "No, we haven't got any f***ing bread."

Duck says: "Got any bread?"

Barman says: "No, are you deaf?! We haven't got any f***ing bread, ask me again and I'll nail your f**ing beak to the bar, you irritating bastard of a f***ing bird!"

Duck says: "Got any nails?"

Barman says: "No"

Duck says: "Got any bread?
