I have been saying for ages that Every profession could benefit from the influence of an engineer or two! I know there are engineers who specialize in medical equipment but they should make friends with a few dirty fingernail types and share problems.

Yep.

Weak knee joints are a common problem in my family so I have already been pondering on how I would design a robustly built knee replacement joint system for myself.

Granted as my minimal health issues have proven so far my lower back is likely going to get me first though.

and a prosthetic lower spine would be much more complicated than a knee...but don't let that deter you!

If you make it and it makes you lots of money then the customary motivation and counseling fees will be assesed!

Actually I think that if I had a good 3D MRI mapping done of my lower back I could create a suitable refit!

Granted getting someone to do the surgery would be the hardest part.
