The Switch: NSA Uses Google Cookies to Pinpoint Targets for Hacking

Posted December 11, 2013 9:52 AM

From Technology News - The Washington Post:

The National Security Agency is secretly piggybacking on the tools that enable Internet advertisers to track consumers, using "cookies" and location data to pinpoint targets for government hacking and to bolster surveillance. More information can be found in The Washington Post piece NSA Uses Google Cookies to Pinpoint Targets for Hacking.

There's more to it than that.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jun/28/us-army-blocks-guardian-website-access

With my propensity toward sharing information that isn't reported in the media, I've found that certain websites and youtube videos will shut down or crash in the middle of my session, and I get error messages.

I can't help but wonder if they have tagged my IP address, and are restricting my access to certain sites.

Since I've become somewhat of a citizen whistle blower, it wouldn't surprise me.

They have the capability to do whatever they want.

And I don't think they'll stop until they have control.

It's small world, when it comes to the incestuous relationships between Washington and the corporations.

The taxpayers just get to pay for it all.

Vice is nice, but incest is best.

Especially if it's almost free.

We know these guys can hardly "make ends meet".

Got me paranoid now. I'm neither a US citizen or person of interest (am I?) and I don't live on US soil, yet still, I too am trackable. Nobody in the world is immune.

Oh well

After reading that Washington Post article and the eloquent comments appending it, I got to tinkering with the cookie settings on this browser (Firefox).

One of the commentors noted that there were 19 cookies sent to their PC just by reading the subject article on WP's webpage and proceeded to list them specifically.

I had to verify this for myself (by experimentation) and it turned out to be true but I couldn't be razzed to bother counting them.

With my browser now set to alert me every time a cookie is attempting to inseminate my PC I am asked whether or not I should allow the intrusion. I decided to choose "Allow for session".

It took many clicks of that button to allow a bunch of CR4 cookies through just to comment here.

Being paranoid is turning out to be a button clicking drag, I think I'll revert my browser settings and enjoy ignorant bliss.

Hmmm...To all at NSA "Merry Christmas"....

Don't worry. If you're not doing anything wrong, there's nothing to worry about.

One thing that all of this will likely accomplish...it may help with the immigration issue, because people won't be coming here anymore in search of freedom.

Could it be that the spirit of J. Edgar lingers in the Amercian psyche?

It lingers in the government psyche.

They've been looking for ways to thwart our freedom, and their limitations, from day one. J. Edgar, (and the administrations he worked for), had the commies for an excuse.

911 presented our government with a gift wrapped excuse to trample our freedom, and they have executed that opportunity with reckless abandon.

I wonder if it has ever occurred to them, that destroying our constitution and the guarantees in it, may have been the goal of the terrorists from the start?

If so, the terrorists have won, and our own government is finishing the job.

OSB's goal was always to plunge the US into financial ruin.

The only problem is, he won't be around to see his goal realized.

It won't matter. The Islamic terrorists work on scales that go on for centuries.

It's not something we can relate to.

Good idea....and I'm working on it.

Not firing the government, just the trash that happens to be running it.

2014 will be a good start.

Just the name alone, sets off warning bells. "Here, have a cookie!" like it's a good thing. I guess they had to use "cookie", cause "free candy" was already taken.
