Posted December 18, 2013 11:16 AM

There's a number of reasons why we won't see that on the streets in the near future, among these:

  1. Deafness issues.
  2. Dead battery every morning due to the energy consummed to keep rain outside the car.
  3. Lower the efficiency of the car due to the high power required to keep the shield active while driving.

Just imagine how much energy will it take to create a shield equivalent to a flat area of about 1800 square inches moving against the wind at 100 MPH.

Regards

Neat, but I would think one of the modern glass coatings would be a far better option for the average car, after all the average car doesn't need to travel at the speeds a jet or super car would experience.

Those 30kHz "vibrations" are gonna LOVE any windshield cracks they encounter.

I've got a better idea.

Has anyone seen those compact hand dryers in rest rooms, that put out super high velocity air?

Imagine one of those, feeding a narrow vent that runs along the bottom of the windshield.

No way. There's no air moving in a restroom.

It would take at least 10 HP to drive any blower that would clear a windshield at even 40 MPH.

Oh well.

I'm fine with wipers. I think I'd rather replace a blade than fix a broken force field.
