Although the ability to transform a simple watch into a piece of beautiful jewelry is an art form that is at least a century old, it is rarely, if ever, thought of in connection with LCD display watches.
The Seiko Electronic Ink Watch for women has no diamond or ruby embellishments, but instead has the appearance of a sleek silver (titanium) and black lacquer bracelet. The "lacquer," which surrounds the center of the watch is actually a flexible LCD display that features extraordinary contrast and clarity. The display is covered in a continuous sapphire crystal (not the deep-blue faceted type but the clear smooth type usually used for high end watch crystals). Already awarded one of the highest honors in watchmaking for this design, Seiko has dubbed this forerunner as the shape of things to come.
