Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

As Jam Handy Shows Us, Road Rage is Nothing New

Road rage is something most of us equate to being a hazard of modern life. Too many cars, too many inattentive drivers, and too little open space produce a dangerous combination, occasionally turning the average Dr. Jekyll into a sinister Mr. Hyde, at least within the comfort and safety of his own automobile. This pair of vintage driver safety films, produced by Jam Handy and funded by Chevrolet, clearly illustrate that road rage isn't just a contemporary phenomenon.

The best place to become a victim of road rage is the southbound slip road onto the A14 from the A1/A14/A141 roundabout between 16:15 and 16:20 on a Friday evening.

'Road rage' (and 'trolly rage'/ 'air rage' etc etc) is one of those annoying phrases that is used to somehow mitigate people acting like jerks.

I suppose there is a serious point to it all.*

* I apologize to all women - there was no link came to mind for all the idiot blokes I've seen on the road.
