This is both good and bad news but not at all surprising. The good news is the energy industry is starting to become aware. They are sharing information of the attacks they have found. The bad news is we are far from even a possible solution. In WWIII the first wave will be a crippling cyber-attack instead of the Blitzkrieg using air attacks to soften the enemy of WWII. If I was the enemy, I would use botnet zombies of the target nation to attack the power grid, communications and government networks. It is likely they could take it all down in minutes. I assume at least half of the home computers in any given country are infected with bot nets. I say this because of the prevailing attitude that a good anti-virus scanner will protect their computer.

I spend an inordinate effort to keep botnets out of my computer. Most users couldn't be bothered doing even a small percentage of what I do. I have the top rated firewall configured for maximum protection. My browser runs in the most secure sandbox I know of. I am using script blockers for my browser since script filters are not secure enough for me. Script filters check a list of dangerous urls before you change pages. The list is maintained by web crawlers that look for infected pages. Infections are transient (less than 24 hrs) in security serious web sites. With everything I do, my browser has been attacked 3 times this month. I have been attack free for over a year. The browser is protected with a sandbox but that means all my defenses save the last have been breached and my computer is no longer secure. I will upgrade my defenses then format my C: drive and install a clean image of my OS and software.

Really covet that porn collection huh?

Given the high defense system you have in place the odds are you have already been targeted and snooped by the government just to see what it is you are trying to hide.

I use the opposite defense method. I just don't keep anything of value or security concern on my computers.

If you want people to be curious make it clear you don't want them looking. If you want people to leave you alone make it clear that they can look anywhere anytime!
