Oscilloscope Interfaces: Somebody Listened to Me

Posted March 12, 2014 10:30 AM

From EETimes::

Finally, a traditional oscilloscope maker has made an oscilloscope that works like a smartphone or tablet.

So what!? For ~$25-$30 you can get an oscilloscope front end that will work with your smartphone!

Granted, it is limited (Maximum Sampling rate: 2MSPS,Analog Bandwidth: 200kHz), but for most of what I and most people do, that is more than sufficient.

Unless you are working with or troubleshooting RF signals, this will do the trick. And it will fit in your pocket.

Kilowatt,

What oscilloscope do you recommend for RF work? Mainly cell frequencies.

You probably need more info than that but just a general recommendation will suffice to point me in the right direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

UFG

Certainly not the one I wrote about, it doesn't have the bandwidth capabilities. For cell towers (depending on where you are), there is wide range of frequencies used. Anywhere from 850 MHz to 2.5 GHz.

It also depends on what you are trying to do: 1. If your working on repairing/designing equipment, then you will need a good quality scope, with a bit more bandwidth than the signals you will be looking at. If it is for work, I would go with either Tectronix or Fluke (no connection, just like their quality). If it is for home hobby, I would look at either Ebay, or to step it up - a good reconditioned scope from the manufacturer. 2. If you are trying to troubleshoot RF interference problems, you might want to look at a good Spectrum analyzer.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I have one of the single channel models. Nice handy little instrument for around the house/hobbies.

I bought the dual channel one. I keep it in the bag with the probes instead of the other way around.
