This so-called announcement is "old news", so to speak...

As already posted elsewhere, my son has installed a "Control-4" system in my house for me, which lets me control the thermostat, my lights, security cameras, my home entertainment system, and anything else I wish to add the "modules" for...

... all from the iPhone, for now ... (with apps for Android devices soon to follow).

The technology is already available, in a fairly grand way.

Apple is just finally jumping on the bandwagon, so to speak....

... ( seeing that there is money in it ).

...groan...
A solution to a non-existent problem.
it would be nice if we just had phones that worked.
On a recent trip to the USA, I got there and my phone didn't connect???
Mrs Cat berated me for not getting it set to 'roaming'
Eh? What? It can either pick up a signal or it can't...
If it can, then why can't it be set to connect at the time? We have a global network of satellites and Virgin Media can't connect the damn phone.
The clue is in the name "Mobile Phone"... If I go to Italy it connects no prob'...

Classic case of technology screwup, too much irrelevant cr4p and no attention to the basics.
Fortunately a nice lady at the airport let me E-mail Mrs Cat.

Anyhow, I spent 4 days in Tennessee makin' bows, so I was happy

This is news??

Comcast has been pounding us for months to sign up with their Xfinity home control system, all controlled remotely by Android apps.

Sounds like Apple marketers finally woke up to the potential in home/building automation.

Other than thieves wanting into our pockets, is there any deeper reason for the "automated, remotely controlled home"? I also wonder what needs to be remotely controlled. I'd rather find a way to control my wife--remotely. There's an app I'd go for.
