I have to look back at that instant when I was a kid I was so inspired by what we (humans) had finally accomplished with the Apollo 11 mission.

45 years later I reflect back and in that span of nearly 1/2 century we have accomplished virtually nothing on that frontier since.

I am so grateful for experiencing that point in history as my own source of inspiration in life and so sad to see that the subsequent generations have nothing better than Facebook.

I had just started working the year before at a major electronics company. The radios that they, and the shuttle, used were made by us, as were many other radios used by the military and police departments. I also worked on many unmanned "spy" satellites. I followed those manned flights with intense interest.

They, as you said, inspired many younger people to go into the fields of science and technology.

But, the days of slide rules and T-squares are over. Now, I don't see the urgency to go into space as much as before.

There's so much to learn about this planet before we head back into space, but I agree that video games and Facebook are more the norm for kids these days.

The "good old days" are behind us, in so many ways.

I just saw a "How It's Made" episode on the Science Channel where they are making lunar rover replicas for museums. How sad.
