Will the Internet of Things Introduce an MRO Revolution?

The Internet has enabled improvements in MRO functions, but the Internet of Things (IoT) promises even greater efficiency through proactive monitoring and increased automation. Predictive maintenance practices will likely expand, thanks to embedded sensors that can indicate when a component is about to fail, providing data for better decision-making and even automatically ordering a replacement. The data analysis resulting from the connectivity of machines and the Internet also is expected to optimize inventory control, repairs, and asset reliability.

Except for Automatic Software Upgrades, it sounds like SPC on a chip. (YATLA (yet another three letter acronym)) The point of statistical process control is to produce real-time data in order to predict failures before they happen in order to give you a chance to fix things before you start producing nonconforming material or experience equipment failure.

Since when have we had this irritating and ludicrous "of Things" added to "The internet" ? .

Here I am sitting at my Desk of Things using my computer of Things.

When I get home I'll go to my garage of things and work on my Bow of Arrows

It's facile, it's stupid, it's redundant... for pities sake stop it.

And stop using unexplained acronyms...

UTLA so very frequently is an indication of baffling with...

We already have an uncontrolled hackers paradise with things that understandably should be connected to the internet. Putting "things" on the internet just because we can is inane and possibly a dangerous refuge for malicious code. It is also not new by at least four decades.
