Design's Latest Mantra: Light-weighting

Posted March 21, 2015 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

As this Desktop Engineering report notes, 2015 could well be a very big year for shaving weight from mechanical design. The article explores major strategies and software tools for meeting light-weighting goals. Find out how the Inspire program can optimize your geometry for weight savings. Other approaches include simulation with built-in analysis, as well as specialized software for transforming a solid part into a shell with honeycomb interior, both to reduce materials and prepare the model for 3D printing. Among the chief payoffs: energy savings, structural strength, and improved internal cooling. Want more? See this review on Inspire software.

Not really new is it Lyn?

Just a different way of going about what folk who make things work have been doing since the invention of the stick.

Only new thing is the ever increasing use of the word "paradigm".

An 1888 paradime...

Been trying to downsize for years, but my failure is recorded by the ever increasing pant size I must buy.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't change his spots.

Maybe you're just too wide for your height.
