From CNET News.com:

On July 21, construction reached 1,680 feet on the 141st floor of the Burj Dubai tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, making it the largest building in the world. The skyscraper is now 13 feet above the former record holder, Tapei 101 in Taiwan, which is 1,667 feet above the ground. Of course they meant The World's New Tallest Building did they not?

Somebody just has to have the world's latest, greatest, and tallest!

Maybe OBL will pilot a plane into the midheight.

"The final height and number of stories are a secret."

Why? What differnce does that make and who cares?

Hey Sam ... you're sounding as grumpy, pedantic and intollerant as me....

Fun ain't it?

Imagine coming down from the top and realising you left the car keys on the dresser!

'mornin' Stan, 'mornin' Del.

I've been paying attention to the progress on the Burj Dubai, simply because it's in my area of professional interest. I doubt that most folks really pay much attention to what building is tallest, but it's been something that the construction industry has kept track of since Chicago began building skyscrapers at the turn of the last century.

the folks are trying to keep the actual final built height secret, because there are a couple other projects underway that might actually compete with this one for "world's tallest". this one should cost a final estimated 1 billion usd. final projected height is expected to be 2640 feet... a half of a mile high. i sorta imagine that if one of the competing projects exceeds this one, that they'll tack on another couple stories onto Burj Dubai.

Arch3451: What is the tallest, old building? By old, I mean before the 18th century. This can be by height, from base/foundation to top, or elevation of the foundation. I have several candidates.

The Great Pyramid at Gaza is 485 ft. (Original height, not present).

The height of The Roman Colosseum was 144 ft.

The height of Hanging Gardens Babylon variously quoted of 75, 80, or <= 100 Ft.

What's up, (higher)?

176 years is a good reign as the world's tallest building!

St. Olav's Church in Tallinn. Between 1549 and 1625 it was the tallest building in the world

Tall or tallest is subjective, doesn't count in a contest.

HOW TALL ? ? ? ?
