Revised Standard for Rotating Electrical Equipment Repair

Posted March 26, 2016 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

The Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA) has updated its Recommended Practice for the Repair of Rotating Electrical Apparatus. The update replaces the existing standard that had been in place since 2010 and features 90 important changes. Among them are updated evaluation criteria for bearing insulation testing and the requirement to perform previously optional tests for winding resistance, insulation, and surge on every repair. It also includes revised unfiltered vibration limits to conform to current current NEMA and IEC standards values.

It is observed that after rewinding motors performance is not as good as it was before rewinding. I suggest that rewound motors should be tested to important routine tests such as insulation, high voltage, temp. rise, noise, vibration etc.
